Chapter 47 - The Broken Sisterhood

Dawn broke over Meadowgate, clearing the rain clouds to reveal a sky of pale, crystalline blue. Down at the main house, the terrace was lined with federal vehicles, unmarked sedans, and Clara’s legal team.
Victoria was brought into the study where Ivy sat behind Eleanor’s antique desk. Victoria’s face was pale, stripped of all arrogance, her designer clothes caked in mud, her eyes hollow with the sudden realization that her entire life of privilege had been an illusion funded by an empire she didn't understand.
"Ivy... please," Victoria whispered, trembling, unable to meet her sister's eyes. "I didn't know. I swear to God I didn't know Bale was a criminal. He told me he was an investor. He said Arthur had left us millions in European trust funds, and that you were keeping it all for yourself... that you were just a jealous bookkeeper who wanted to punish me for having a life."
Ivy did not raise her voice. She placed a single sheet of paper on the desk—a formal, legally binding non-disclosure and forfeiture agreement.
"You signed the loan documents that put Meadowgate up as collateral for six hundred thousand dollars," Ivy said, each word landing like a lead weight. "You pledged my property, my home, and Grandmother’s memory to pay for your luxury lease in Alexandria and your season tickets in Monaco."
"I was desperate!" Victoria cried. "Everyone was laughing at me! When you took away the Vance accounts, my credit cards stopped working, the club canceled my membership—"
"You were embarrassed to be poor," Ivy cut in, her eyes steady and cold. "I was embarrassed to be your sister. I spent three years eating cold dinners at this desk while you threw charity galas with money I earned by staying up until four in the morning fixing Arthur's tax fraud. You called me their little clerk. You made sure every guest knew I was the help."
Ivy pushed the paper forward, along with an ordinary ballpoint pen.
"This agreement surrenders every claim you have to the Vance name, the estate, and any future trust disbursements," Ivy commanded. "In exchange, Dr. Thorne’s division will not indict you as a co-conspirator in Bale’s espionage network. You will walk away from this valley with the clothes on your back and the personal belongings currently in your apartment. Nothing more. No trust. No inheritance. No family."
Victoria looked at the pen, her hand shaking violently. "Ivy... we’re sisters. You can’t leave me with nothing."
May you like
"You left yourself with nothing the moment you brought wolves to our front door," Ivy said. "Sign the paper, Victoria. Or Marcus calls the federal marshals waiting in the hall."
Sobbing uncontrollably, Victoria took the pen and signed.
