Chapter 9 - The Fall of the House of Wycliffe

Inside the grand ballroom, the sweet, soaring notes of the Bridal Chorus echoed through the vaulted ceiling.
Madison Vale stood proudly near the floral arch, clutching a bouquet of white lilies, her veil draped perfectly over her shoulders. Victoria and Grant beamed from the front row, their cups raised slightly in silent triumph. Sheriff Miller stood near the side exit, arms crossed, looking pleased with a morning's work well done.
Suddenly, the music cut off mid-measure.
With a deafening crash that echoed through the entire hall, the massive oak double doors were kicked wide open by federal marshals in tactical gear.
Gasps of shock and terror rippled through the four hundred elite guests like a wave of electricity. Heads whipped around toward the entrance.
Victoria turned around, her face twisting in instant fury and confusion. "Adrian?! What is the meaning of—"
Her voice died instantly in her throat.
Striding through the open doorway, framed by armed federal agents, was Adrian. And walking right beside him, holding his hand with serene, breathtaking grace, was Emily.
She wore her eight-month custom lace wedding gown, her veil trailing behind her, with Adrian’s royal crest pin gleaming proudly on the lapel of the tuxedo jacket draped over her shoulders.
Madison Vale let out a sharp, strangled gasp. She stumbled backward against the floral arch, dropping her bouquet of lilies onto the polished marble floor with a soft thud, her face turning chalk-white as she realized the horrifying extent of her public humiliation.
"Adrian?!" Madison cried out, her voice cracking across the silent hall. "Who... why is she here? Where is..."
Adrian and Emily walked down the center aisle, completely ignoring the sea of flashing smartphones, dropped jaws, and stunned board members. They moved with the unbothered grace of royalty walking through their own domain.
They stopped directly in front of the front row, standing toe-to-toe with Victoria and Grant.
"The wedding is continuing as scheduled," Adrian announced, his amplified voice echoing clearly throughout the entire hall. "With my chosen wife, Emily."
Grant Wycliffe’s face turned a deep, apoplectic shade of purple. He shoved past Victoria, stepping right up to his son, his finger trembling with rage.
"You arrogant, ungrateful little fool!" Grant roared, his voice shaking the crystal chandeliers. "I will disinherit you right here, right now! I will strip you of every asset, every title, and every cent Wycliffe Global owns!"
Adrian didn’t even blink. He simply nodded toward the distinguished gentleman carrying the leather portfolio who had stepped up beside him.
The elderly gentleman opened the portfolio, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses, and looked directly at Grant Wycliffe.
"Mr. Grant Wycliffe," the gentleman stated, his voice chillingly polite and formal. "On behalf of the House Sovereign Trust, I am here to execute formal notice."
Grant sneered. "What nonsense are you talking about? Who the hell are you?"
"I am primary legal counsel for the European Sovereign Holdings," the gentleman replied smoothly. "Due to criminal unlawful imprisonment, fraudulent misrepresentation, and malicious breach of trust agreements executed this morning by you and your wife, the Sovereign Trust has triggered an immediate liquidation recall on all Wycliffe Global Freight corporate credit lines."
The color drained entirely from Grant’s face. "Lies! You can't do that—our credit is backed by international syndicates!"
"Effective five minutes ago," the lawyer continued calmly, reading from the document, "all revolving credit has been frozen, your assets have been seized to cover outstanding sovereign liabilities, and you and your wife have been permanently stripped of your positions on the board of directors. Mr. and Mrs. Wycliffe... you are bankrupt."
The silence in the ballroom was absolute. You could have heard a pin drop on the marble floor.
Victoria let out a small, high-pitched gasp. Her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed heavily back into her front-row velvet seat, clutching her pearls and hyperventilating as federal officers calmly stepped forward with formal arrest warrants for fraud and unlawful detainment.

Madison Vale didn't wait for security. Gathering the heavy skirts of her stolen dress, she turned and bolted out through the side terrace doors, fleeing into the woods to escape the flashing cameras and the wreckage of her ambitions.
Sheriff Miller slowly unpinned the silver star from his chest, quietly slipping toward the exit behind the retreating crowd, realizing his political patron had just been utterly obliterated.
