Chapter 7 - The Gates Fall

Emily’s breath caught in her throat. She stood frozen in the center of the driveway, clutching the silk skirt of her custom lace gown as Adrian stepped out into the crisp mountain air.

Adrian’s icy fury instantly melted into a look of profound, overwhelming tenderness as his eyes locked onto Emily standing in the cold wind. But that softness vanished in a heartbeat, hardening back into pure steel as he turned his gaze toward the trembling security guards at the gate.

"Open the gate," Adrian commanded, his voice cutting through the valley air like a razor-sharp blade.

The head guard swallowed hard, his knees visibly shaking. "M-Mr. Adrian... your mother... she gave strict orders—"

Before the guard could finish his sentence, the lead federal diplomatic agent stepped forward, flashing a high-level government clearance badge right in the man’s face.

"Step away from the control panel immediately," the agent barked. "This entire perimeter is now under federal diplomatic jurisdiction. Any resistance will be treated as an act of treason and obstruction of international sovereign law."

The guards didn’t just back away—they practically tripped over themselves scrambling backward. With a heavy, metallic groan, the massive wrought-iron gates swung wide open.

Adrian didn’t wait for anyone else. He walked straight toward Emily.

He ignored the flashing cameras of passing tourists, the staring faces of guests trapped in their parked cars, and the absolute chaos erupting around the estate entrance. When he reached her, he unbuttoned his custom tuxedo jacket, wrapped it gently around Emily’s trembling shoulders, and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead.

"I told you no one would ever stand between us, Emily," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I’m sorry I was late. The emergency breach took twenty minutes longer than planned."

"Adrian... what is happening?" Emily breathed, looking past him at the staggering fleet of matte-black SUVs and armed marshals. "Lauren said your parents locked you in the guest room..."

"My mother tried to trap a decoy assistant in that room," Adrian said with a cold, humorless smirk. "She spent thirty years living in the delusion that my father’s regional shipping firm was the absolute peak of power. She had no idea about my maternal grandfather's family..."

He paused, gently taking Emily’s hand and intertwining his fingers with hers.

"...the European sovereign trust backing our international investments, which happens to hold eighty percent of Wycliffe Global Freight's corporate debt."

Rachel let out a breathless, triumphant laugh behind them. "Oh, that is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard."

Adrian looked down at Emily, his eyes shining with fierce devotion. "Come with me, my love. It’s time to show them who the real bride is."
