Chapter 99 - The True Archon

On the massive screen, a figure sat in an ornate leather chair behind a desk of carved ebony. Unlike Victor Sterling, this man was not panicking. His hair was silver, his eyes were cold gray slate, and behind him stood the high-arched windows of an estate overlooking a storm-tossed sea.

"Fascinating," the man on the screen said, his voice deep, cultured, and devoid of human emotion. "Truly fascinating. General Gardner. Abigail. You display a resilience that is exceedingly rare among common soldiers."

Victor Sterling raised his bloody head toward the screen, his eyes widening in pure horror. "Father... Father, help me! They... they aborted the launch! They breached Silo Seven!"

*Father.*

The realization hit me like a physical blow. Harrison and Victor Sterling were not the founders of the dynasty. They were the sons.

The man on the screen was Raymond Sterling—the patriarch who had supposedly died in 1994, the legendary industrialist who had laid the foundation for the entire private defense infrastructure of the modern era.

"Be quiet, Victor," Raymond Sterling said, his voice flat and dismissive. "You failed. Your brother Harrison failed. Julian failed. You allowed your petty, decadent cruelties to blind you to the larger objective. You provoked a three-star combat general of the United States Army, and you paid the price."

"Raymond Sterling," I said, stepping between Abigail and the screen, my weapon resting against my hip. "You can hide behind your encrypted offshore feeds, old man. But your entire network is dismantled. Tartarus is sunk. The Cheyenne silos are locked down. Your sons are dead or in chains. There is nowhere on this earth you can run that I will not hunt you down."

Raymond Sterling offered a thin, chilling smile that did not reach his cold gray eyes.

"Hunt me, General?" Raymond chuckled softly. "Look at the terminal display beneath your daughter’s hands."

Abigail gasped, her eyes darting across the secondary telemetry stream that had just unlocked on the console.

"Mom..." Abigail whispered, her voice tightening with dread. "The missile abort in Silo Seven... it was a diversion. The launch protocol wasn't the primary directive."

"What did he do, Abigail?" I demanded.

"The malware didn't just target the silos," Abigail said, horror creeping into her tone. "It was a data extraction worm. While we were fighting for the abort controls, *Leviathan* downloaded the complete nuclear target packages, launch codes, and stealth deployment routes of the entire United States Navy ballistic submarine fleet."

"The Sterling family was never about domestic silos, General," Raymond Sterling said, leaning forward toward the camera, his gaze burning through the glass. "Those old Minutemen missiles were obsolete relics. A distraction to keep you and the Pentagon looking at the mountains while I harvested the true crown jewels of American power. The trident submarines are now blind to Washington. They answer only to the Leviathan core on my island."
