Chapter 7 - A New Dawn

Months later, spring returned to Chicago, washing away the bitter remnants of winter with warm sunlight and blooming green foliage.

Inside the private maternity wing of the city's premier hospital, the air was filled with quiet joy.

Maeve sat propped up in a hospital bed, cradling a tiny, fragile bundle wrapped in a soft white blanket. A shock of dark hair crowned the sleeping infant's head, and soft, even breathing filled the room.

The door opened quietly, and Dante walked in. He was wearing a simple dark shirt, his sleeves rolled up, revealing the heavy tattoos on his arms. But the moment his eyes locked onto the bundle in Maeve’s arms, the fierce, intimidating predator vanished, replaced by a profound, overwhelming tenderness.

He walked slowly to the bedside, holding his breath as if afraid he might shatter the moment.

"Do you want to hold her?" Maeve asked softly, a radiant smile gracing her lips.

Dante swallowed hard, nodding slowly. He extended his large, strong hands, and Maeve carefully transferred the baby into his arms.

Dante looked down at the tiny face resting against his chest. For a man who had spent his entire life commanding armies, fighting shadow wars, and surviving betrayal, holding this fragile new life felt heavier and more precious than any victory he had ever claimed.

A single tear slipped down his cheek, catching the light before falling onto the baby's blanket.

"Hello, little one," Dante whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm your uncle... or whatever you need me to be. But I promise you, no one will ever touch you. No one will ever hurt you."

Maeve watched them, her heart overflowing with a deep, profound sense of peace. The nightmare on the mountain, the years of stolen memories, the betrayal of a false marriage—it all felt like a lifetime away.

She was no longer the helpless victim pushed off a cliff. She was Aria Sterling. A mother, a survivor, and the rightful heir to her own destiny.

And as Dante looked up from the baby to meet her gaze, love—real, enduring, and unbreakable—settled quietly between them like a promise kept across the span of a decade.

The storm had finally passed. The future was theirs.
