Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

That evening, the sun dipped below the Charlotte skyline, painting the clouds in shades of amber, violet, and gold.

I sat on the wide stone balcony of my father’s estate, holding a glass of sparkling cider. The wind rustled through the oak trees, and the distant hum of the city sounded like a symphony of a life reclaimed.

My father walked out onto the balcony, holding two crystal flutes. He handed one to me and clinked his glass gently against mine.

“To new beginnings,” he said softly.

“To new beginnings,” I echoed, taking a sip as the bubbles danced on my tongue.

I looked down at my hand. My fingers were bare, free of the heavy, cold ring that had once symbolized a cage of expectations and conditional love. In its place was nothing—just the clean, unencumbered space of my own hands, ready to build whatever future I chose.

Adam and Lorraine had wanted to humiliate me, to reduce me to a gold digger, to make me feel small under their string lights. Instead, they had accidentally blown the roof off my cage and given me back my family, my strength, and my true power.

I smiled into the evening breeze, knowing that the best chapter of my life was only just beginning.
