Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Coup

Monday morning at Apex Restaurant Supply felt electric.
As I stepped out of the private elevator onto the executive floor, fifty-four employees looked up from their desks. Word travels fast in the commercial supply industry. By 8:00 AM, rumors of Daniel’s arrest and the country club disaster had already swept through the corporate grapevine.
My chief operating officer, Sarah Jenkins, met me near my office door with a thick folder and a wide, triumphant grin.
“Emily,” Sarah said, handing me the paperwork. “The banks called. Daniel’s corporate credit lines have been frozen based on the fraud affidavits filed by Marcus. Furthermore, North Bridge Capital called five minutes ago.”
I paused, turning the handle of my office door. “North Bridge? That’s Daniel’s biggest prospective client.”
“Was,” Sarah corrected with a sharp smile. “They found out about his arrest this morning. They also realized that Daniel misrepresented our supply chain infrastructure as his own proprietary tech. They want to cut ties with him immediately and negotiate a direct supply contract with us.”
I walked into my expansive corner office, dropping my briefcase on the mahogany desk. The view of the city skyline was breathtaking. For years, Daniel had treated this company like his secondary playground, constantly undermining my success while claiming credit for our commercial reach.
“Set up a meeting with North Bridge for Tuesday morning,” I instructed, sitting down in my leather executive chair. “And Sarah?”
“Yes?”
“Revoke all building access badges for Margaret Hale and Vanessa Hale effective immediately. If they show up in the lobby, security is authorized to escort them out.”

Sarah laughed softly. “Consider it done, boss. Oh, and one more thing—your husband’s defense attorney has been calling every ten minutes.”
“Send them straight to Marcus,” I said, opening my laptop. “I’m not interested in negotiations.”
