Chapter 9 - Justice at the Harbor

There was no shouting, no chaotic brawl. In the world of the Moretti family, absolute betrayal commanded absolute, silent justice. Within minutes, loyal enforcers disarmed Victor’s loyalists throughout the estate without firing a single shot. Victor was stripped of his signet ring, his weapons, and his title, dragged away in heavy restraints toward the basement holding cells to await permanent exile across the sea.

By midnight, the storm clouds parted once more, washing the harbor in a brilliant, cleansing blanket of moonlight.

I stood on the grand marble steps of the estate, breathing in the fresh sea air. The heavy weight of paranoia and suspicion that had choked my life for years had finally lifted.

Footsteps approached softly from behind. I turned to see Isabella standing there, her expression soft, free of the fear and secrets that had burdened her for so long. Beside her, little Emma held her mother Sophia’s hand, sleepily waving goodnight before heading off to a safe, peaceful bed.

“You knew all along she was protecting me, didn’t you?” Isabella asked softly, stepping close enough for the familiar scent of jasmine to wash over me.

“I knew there was a reason you were hiding in the shadows,” I replied, gently taking her hand in mine. “And I knew that a woman who cares enough to shield a child from danger is a woman whose heart I can trust with my life.”

She smiled, leaning her head against my shoulder as we watched the harbor waves shimmer in the dark.
