Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The following evening, the grand mahogany boardroom of the Moretti estate was filled with heavy tension. The senior capos sat in strict hierarchy around the polished table, their faces grim and unreadable. Victor Romano sat at the opposite end of the table, projecting an aura of heavy, sorrowful obligation, playing the part of the devoted brother forced to make a tragic choice for the good of the family.
“Gentlemen,” Victor began, his voice laced with manufactured grief as I entered the room accompanied by Isabella. “It breaks my heart to call this emergency session. But the safety of the Moretti name comes before personal bonds. Recent security audits reveal severe financial leaks and unauthorized communications originating directly from Dante’s private files.”
Senior Elder Moreno frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. “What are you implying, Victor?”
“I am implying,” Victor sighed heavily, standing up and sliding a thick folder across the table, “that Dante has been compromised. Whether through blackmail or fatigue, our leadership is no longer secure. For the survival of our family, I move that operational authority be transferred immediately.”
Murmurs rippled through the room. The corrupted elders nodded in silent agreement, their palms already greased by Victor’s ambitions.
I did not flinch. I pulled out my chair, sat down with deliberate slowness, and placed the black notebook squarely in the center of the mahogany table.

“A very compelling performance, Vic,” I said, my voice cutting through the murmurs like a scalpel. “You’ve spent months rehearsing it. But you forgot one crucial detail: a house built on lies always leaves a paper trail.”
Victor’s triumphant smile faltered for a fraction of a second. “What is this nonsense?”
