Chapter 4 - Confrontation at the Pier

The wind off Boston Harbor carried the sharp, freezing sting of early winter.
At Pier 4, an old corrugated steel warehouse stood surrounded by towering shipping containers and dark, churning water. Inside, Dominic Vane—a sleek, forty-year-old man in a cashmere coat with slicked-back hair—was pacing nervously beside a wooden crate.
Three armed thugs stood near the entrance, checking their watches.
"Where the hell is she?" Dominic growled, checking his gold Rolex. "She was supposed to deliver the weekly ledger receipts at seven. If that bitch skipped her shift at Valente—"
"She didn't skip her shift, Dominic," a cold voice echoed from the shadows of the doorway.
Dominic spun around, reaching instinctively for the pistol inside his coat.
Elias Baron stepped out from behind a stack of wooden crates. He wore his long wool coat, his hands casually shoved into his pockets. Behind him, twelve heavily armed security guards stepped into the light, their automatic weapons trained directly on Dominic’s men.
"Elias!" Dominic stammered, his face turning ghost-white. "What... what are you doing here? This is just routine property inspection for the family trust—"
"Save it," Elias interrupted, his voice like grinding stones.
Frank Moretti stepped forward, tossing a thick bundle of printouts onto the wooden crate in front of Dominic.
"That's three years of double ledgers, Dominic," Elias said, taking a slow, lethal step forward. "Fourteen million dollars stolen from the family foundation. Account numbers, offshore shell companies in the Caymans, and forged signatures."
Dominic swallowed hard, sweat breaking out across his forehead. "Elias... listen to me. It’s family business! We can work this out! Uncle Silvio knows about the extra accounts—"
"Uncle Silvio is currently being stripped of his voting rights by the board," Elias revealed coldly. "He won't be helping you today."
Dominic’s eyes flicked wildly around the room, realization dawning on him. "Who gave you the book? Who betrayed me?"
Elias stepped directly into Dominic’s personal space, grabbing his cousin by the lapels of his expensive coat and slamming him violently against the steel wall of the warehouse.
"Adeline Prescott," Elias growled into his ear, his voice trembling with a terrifying, contained rage.
Dominic sneered, trying to regain his composure. "That pathetic little waitress? You’re doing all this over a piece of trash who owes us fifty grand? She’s nothing! I hit her a few times to keep her mouth shut—"
BANG!
Elias’s fist struck Dominic square across the jaw.
Dominic collapsed onto the concrete floor, spitting blood and teeth, screaming in pain as he clutched his broken face.
"She is worth a hundred of you," Elias whispered, kneeling over his bleeding cousin, grabbing him by the collar. "You stole from my father’s legacy. You used my name to terrorize an innocent woman. And you laid your filthy hands on someone under my protection."
Elias turned to Frank.
"Take him to the basement at the North End headquarters. Strip him of every asset, every bank account, every property in his name. Once he signs over the deeds to repay the fourteen million... hand him over to the Federal Prosecutors."

"No! Elias, please! Not the Feds!" Dominic shrieked as Frank’s men dragged him kicking and screaming out of the warehouse.
Elias stood in the quiet warehouse, wiping his knuckles with a white handkerchief, looking out at the cold blue ocean.
