Chapter 6 - The Shadows of the Waterfront

Three days passed.

The news of Enzo Bellandi’s sudden arrest and the complete seizure of his illegal operations sent shockwaves through Boston’s underworld.

The captains who had aligned themselves with Enzo quickly realized that the original Don—Roman Valente—had returned from the dead to reclaim his throne. One by one, the syndicate leaders surrendered their books and swore fealty to Roman at his private estate in Beacon Hill.

However, one major threat remained.

Dominic Moretti—the ruthless boss of the rival syndicate who had orchestrated the original war five years ago—was holding a meeting at the city’s northern shipping docks.

Dominic believed Roman was weak, returning without his full army.

Inside the safe house in Cambridge, Roman stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the icy Charles River.

Grace walked into the room quietly, carrying two mugs of warm cider.

She set the mugs on the table and wrapped her arms around Roman’s waist from behind, resting her cheek against his back.

“Gabriel told me you’re going to the docks tonight,” Grace whispered, her voice laced with worry.

Roman turned around, taking her hands in his.

“It’s the final piece, Grace,” Roman said gently. “Dominic Moretti spent five years trying to hunt down what was left of our family. As long as he breathes, Noah will never be able to walk to school without guards.”

“Promise me you’ll come back,” Grace looked into his gray eyes, her voice fierce. “Noah missed five years of having a father. I won't let him lose you twice.”

Roman leaned down, pressing a firm, deep kiss to her lips.

“I promise you,” Roman said against her skin. “I am never leaving again.”
