Chapter 8 - The Federal Presence

Air Marshal Miller stepped out of the cockpit, his broad shoulders filling the aisle as his sharp eyes surveyed the scene. He didn't look like a standard flight crew member; his posture radiated tactical precision, and his hand rested casually near his belt where his encrypted federal badge and sidearm were secured.
Jennifer took one look at the federal marshal and her arrogant facade finally shattered completely. The color drained entirely from her face, leaving her looking gray and ancient.
"Ms. Vance," Air Marshal Miller said, stepping past Captain Reynolds and coming to a respectful halt right beside Amara’s seat. He bowed his head slightly in a gesture of profound professional deference. "Are you alright? We monitored the commotion through the cockpit intercom feed."
"I am fine, Agent Miller," Amara replied steadily, lifting her blistering hand just enough for the marshal to see. "Though it appears Mrs. Vance here has a severe misunderstanding of both personal boundaries and federal law. She spilled hot coffee on me and struck me across the face."
Agent Miller’s eyes turned glacial. He turned his head slowly toward Jennifer, whose knees were suddenly visibly shaking beneath her expensive Chanel skirt.
"Mrs. Jennifer Vance," the air marshal said, his voice echoing cleanly through the first-class cabin. "You have assaulted the primary legal auditor and principal shareholder of Vance Global Holdings—the very entity that happens to hold controlling debt over your husband's entire real estate portfolio, and the individual currently delivering federal whistleblowing documents to the Department of Justice."
A collective gasp echoed through the first-class cabin. Several passengers leaned forward, their eyes widening in disbelief.

Jennifer clutched at her pearls, her voice squeaking in pure panic. "That... that's impossible! That's a lie! She's just a—she's just a nobody!"
"Mrs. Vance," Captain Reynolds finally spoke, his voice returning with the force of a thunderclap. He stepped forward, towering over her. "You have just assaulted Amara Vance, the daughter of the late founder of this airline's parent company, and the sole legal heir who holds the power to foreclose on your family's entire estate before the sun sets today. You didn't just harass a passenger. You assaulted your worst possible nightmare."
