Chapter 3 - The Escalation in the Aisle

"Is there a problem here, ladies?" Chloe asked, stepping between them with a practiced, diplomatic smile designed to defuse tension before it required pilot intervention.

Jennifer immediately turned her fury toward the flight attendant, treating her like an inferior employee rather than a safety professional.

"Thank goodness you're here," Jennifer said, her tone dripping with aggrieved entitlement. "This... this young woman has wandered up from the back, or somehow finagled a boarding pass she has no business holding. She's occupying a first-class seat meant for corporate executives and actual contributors to society. Fix this immediately."

Chloe blinked, looking slightly taken aback. She gently reached out her hand. "Ma'am, if I could just see your boarding pass, please?"

Amara smoothly handed over her phone once more. Chloe scanned the barcode with her handheld device, which beeped a pleasant, confirming green. She then checked the physical manifest on her small tablet.

"That's correct, madam," Chloe said, looking up with a firm, professional edge in her voice. "This is Ms. Amara's seat. Everything is entirely in order."

Jennifer’s jaw dropped. For a second, she looked as though she had been struck physically. The humiliation of being proven wrong in front of an audience of her social peers was too much for her ego to handle.

"So you've decided to play along with her too?" Jennifer snapped, her voice cracking with indignation. "No wonder people have stopped respecting solidity, standards, and class in this country. You let anyone with a sob story buy their way into spaces they have no generational right to occupy!"

The surrounding passengers shifted uncomfortably in their seats. A few muttered disapprovingly—not at Amara, but at Jennifer’s abrasive outburst.

Chloe’s expression hardened, losing its warmth. "Ma'am, I must ask you to lower your voice immediately, step into your seat, and refrain from disturbing the other passengers. Further disruption will be reported to the captain, and you are well aware of the airline's zero-tolerance policy for harassment."

Realizing she was losing the crowd and risking official reprimand before the plane had even taxied, Jennifer backed off, her lips pressed into a tight, white line of pure venom. She slid into Seat 2B, but the anger did not leave her face. Her eyes remained locked on the window, though she kept darting venomous glances at Amara, her fingers tapping a furious rhythm against the armrest, waiting for a convenient moment to strike back.
