Chapter 5 - The Frozen Cabin

The sound of the slap reverberated through the first-class cabin like a pistol shot.

For three full seconds, time seemed to fracture and suspend itself. The gentle hum of the jet engines outside felt miles away. The businessman in Row 3 froze with his napkin halfway to his mouth. The flight attendant serving champagne three rows back stopped dead in her tracks, her tray trembling slightly in her hands.

The cabin fell into an absolute, suffocating silence—the kind of silence that precedes a violent storm.

Amara’s head had snapped to the side from the force of the blow. A bright crimson welt instantly bloomed across her pale cheekbone, stark against her skin. On her right hand, the skin across her knuckles was blistering rapidly from the scalding coffee. Yet, remarkably, Amara did not scream. She did not burst into tears. She slowly turned her head back, her gray eyes locking onto Jennifer with a look so terrifyingly devoid of fear, so chillingly composed, that Jennifer actually took an involuntary half-step backward down the aisle.

"You... you struck a passenger," Chloe stammered, dropping her service cart as she rushed forward, her face pale with horror. "Ma'am, step away from her right now. Do not touch her again!"

"She provoked me!" Jennifer shrieked, her voice cracking as panic finally began to pierce through her veil of entitlement. "She was invading my space, she’s an impostor, she—"

"That is enough!" Chloe shouted, her professional facade entirely shattered by the sheer brutality of the assault. She pressed her service call button twice—the emergency signal that summoned the flight deck crew immediately to the cabin. "Stay right where you are. Do not move an inch."

Within thirty seconds, the heavy cockpit door at the front of the cabin clicked open.

Out stepped Captain Reynolds.

He was a tall, imposing man in his late fifties, with distinguished silver temples, crisp gold epaulets shining on his shoulders, and an expression of absolute granite authority. As a senior captain with over twenty-five years of international flight experience, he had seen unruly passengers, drunken brawls, and medical emergencies at thirty thousand feet. But the sight that greeted him in Row 2 made his eyes narrow into dangerous slits.

He looked at Amara—her reddened cheek, the spilled coffee staining her dress, and the blistering hand. Then, he looked at Jennifer, whose chest was heaving with erratic, panicked breaths.

"Report," Captain Reynolds said, his voice a deep, resonant rumble that carried effortless command.
