Chapter 7 - The Luxury Condo Raid

While I began my grueling transition to the inpatient rehabilitation institute, the state troopers and federal investigators were busy dismantling the final remnants of Harper’s secret empire.

Investigator Vance visited me during my third week at the rehab center, carrying a leather briefcase containing a comprehensive evidence summary for the upcoming grand jury proceedings.

"We finished auditing all of Harper’s storage units and safe deposit boxes," Vance said, sitting down and opening the briefcase. He pulled out a series of high-resolution photographs showing items seized during the final phase of the search warrants. "You were right about the mechanical modifications to the family heirloom, Ms. Lin. But we found something else that sheds light on how she managed to pull off such a precise sabotage."

He handed me a photograph of an intricate, hand-drawn blueprint. My eyes scanned the technical schematics with professional fascination.

"She didn't just machine the drift-pin herself," Vance explained, watching my reaction. "She hired a disreputable machinist in an industrial park in New Jersey three months ago. She lied to him, claiming the custom steel pin was a specialized replacement component for a vintage theatrical stage prop. She paid him in cash and picked up the finished piece under an assumed name."

"A theatrical prop," I murmured, tracing my finger over the precise measurements annotated on the blueprint. "She treated my spine like a stage mechanism. She calculated the exact tensile breaking point of human ribs under a corset lace, factoring in my body weight and her own leverage."

"It was cold, calculated engineering applied to murder," Vance agreed gravely. "The prosecutor is going to use these blueprints to prove premeditation beyond any shadow of a doubt. There will be no plea of temporary insanity or 'accidental tragedy.' She planned this down to the millimeter."

I handed the photograph back to Vance, feeling a cold shiver run down my spine, followed immediately by a surge of profound gratitude that I had survived her deadly calculation.

"Put her away, Investigator," I said steadily. "Make sure she never touches another human being again."
