Chapter 10 - Dawn of a New Era

Two years after the day the pearl corset nearly ended my life, the sun rose over a crisp, golden October morning in upstate New York. The air was filled with the scent of pine and falling leaves, and the garden of the historic estate overlooking the Hudson River was dressed in breathtaking autumn blooms.

There were no antique family heirlooms involved in today's wardrobe. My wedding dress was a custom-tailored masterpiece of modern silk crepe, designed with absolute comfort and structural integrity in mind—and thoroughly inspected by me down to every single stitch.

I stood before the full-length mirror in the bridal suite, adjusting the diamond drop earrings David had given me for our anniversary. My legs were strong beneath me, supported by my own muscles and an unyielding, hard-won resilience. The physical scars along my spine were hidden beneath the smooth fabric of my gown, serving not as a mark of defeat, but as armor from a battle I had won.

A gentle knock sounded at the door, and David walked in. He stopped dead in his tracks, his breath catching in his throat as he looked at me. He was wearing a classic tailored tuxedo, his eyes shining with profound love and adoration.

"You take my breath away, Sarah," David whispered, walking across the room to take my hands in his. "Every single day."

"Ready to try this again?" I asked, a radiant smile breaking across my face.

"Only if you promise not to let anyone lace you into anything except my arms," he laughed softly, pressing a tender kiss to my lips.

We walked out into the sunlit garden together, surrounded by the people who loved us most—friends, colleagues, and family members who had stood by us through the darkest storm of our lives. As the gentle strains of a violin quartet drifted across the lawn, I took my place at the altar, stepping into a future built on truth, justice, and an unbreakable love that no weapon could ever pierce.
