Chapter 10 - A New Canvas

Six months later, the chaos of the trial, the media storms, and the courtroom battles felt like a distant nightmare from another lifetime.

The nursery in our new penthouse apartment overlooking the city skyline was painted in soft, calming shades of sage green and warm cream. Sunlight poured through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating a sleek, state-of-the-art graphic design workstation set up in the corner.

I sat in a comfortable rocking chair, gently cradling our newborn daughter—Elena—against my chest. Her tiny, perfect fingers curled around my thumb with a fierce, instinctive grip.

The scar on my foot was still visible, a faint silvery line across my skin where the bone had healed. But every time I looked at it, it didn't bring pain anymore. It was simply a signature on the masterpiece of my survival.

The front door unlocked softly, and Maya walked in carrying bags of groceries and fresh flowers. She stopped in the doorway of the nursery, smiling warmly as she watched me.

"How are my two favorite girls doing?" Maya asked softly, setting the bags on the kitchen counter.

"Peaceful," I whispered, kissing the top of Elena's soft, dark hair. "Completely, beautifully peaceful."

Maya walked over, gently stroking the baby's cheek before looking down at me with a proud grin. "You know, the design agency in New York just wired the advance for your solo branding exhibition next month. They're calling it The Iron Frame."

I looked down at my daughter, then out the window at the endless expanse of the open sky. The door was unlocked. The hammer was gone. And the canvas was entirely ours to paint.

"Let's get to work," I smiled.
