Chapter 8 - THE COLLAPSE OF THE PRESCOTT DYNASTY

The morning after Aaron’s arrest, Boston woke up to a financial earthquake.
The headline on every major news network and financial daily across the country was identical:
**AARON PRESCOTT ARRESTED ON FEDERAL FRAUD CHARGES FOLLOWING BREAK-IN AT FORMER WIFE’S ESTATE.**
Below the headline were two photographs placed side by side. On the left was Aaron’s mugshot: disheveled, unkempt, his face pale and eyes hollow under the harsh processing lights of the Charles Street Jail. On the right was the photograph of me walking out of the Symphony Hall in my emerald gown, poised, regal, and untouchable.
The narrative was complete. The public had chosen its victor.
At 10:00 a.m., I sat in the executive boardroom of Prescott Global—now officially rebranded on all SEC filings as **Vanguard Logistics International**.
The room had been completely transformed. The heavy mahogany table was gone, replaced by a sleek, minimalist table of frosted glass and brushed steel. The walls were painted a bright, clean alabaster, reflecting the morning sunlight pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Julian Vance sat to my right. Nathan Brooks sat to my left. The remaining board members sat around us in absolute silence, waiting for my directive.
"Ladies and gentlemen," I opened the meeting, setting down my pen. "At 8:30 this morning, the federal court accepted Aaron Prescott’s plea of not guilty, but denied bail due to the substantial flight risk posed by his undisclosed offshore accounts. He will remain in federal custody pending trial."
Arthur Pendelton leaned forward, his hands clasped on the table. "Claire... what does this mean for the company's credit lines? The banks are panicking."
"The banks were panicking," Julian Vance interjected, his sharp, commanding voice silencing the room. "Until Vance Capital and Vanguard Holdings finalized an immediate fifty-million-dollar equity injection at dawn today. We have fully stabilized the balance sheet. Every short-term debt instrument has been retired."
A collective sigh of profound relief washed over the board members.
"Furthermore," I continued, "we have already initiated clawback proceedings against Apex Horizon Ltd. With Jasmine Cole’s complete cooperation with federal prosecutors, the Belize government has frozen the forty-eight million dollars in illicit transfers. Those funds will be repatriated to this firm within sixty days."
"And the Prescott family trust?" another board member asked timidly.
"The Prescott family trust is currently being dissolved under court supervision," Nathan answered smoothly. "Victoria Prescott has vacated the family’s estate in Prides Crossing to satisfy outstanding creditor claims. The Prescott family no longer holds a single share of voting equity, nor do they possess any claim to the intellectual property of this firm."
I looked around the table at the men and women who had spent years bowing to Aaron’s arrogance and ignoring my existence.
"Prescott Global is dead," I stated with absolute clarity. "From this moment forward, this company operates under Vanguard. We build real value. We treat our employees with dignity. And we conduct our business in the light. If anyone in this room is uncomfortable with that standard of transparency, Nathan has severance agreements prepared for your signature today."
Not a single director moved. Not a single person asked for a severance package.
Arthur Pendelton raised his hand slowly. "Claire... on behalf of the board, I want to formally nominate you as Chief Executive Officer and Chairwoman of the Board of Vanguard Logistics International."
Julian Vance immediately seconded the motion. "Seconded."
"All in favor?" Pendelton asked.
Every single hand at the table went up into the air without a moment's hesitation.
I looked at the raised hands, feeling the final remnants of the past three years dissolve into history. I had not sought this war. I had not wanted to spend my life untangling betrayal and corporate deceit. But when survival demanded that I become a weapon, I had struck with total precision.

"Motion carried," I said calmly. "Let's get to work."
