Chapter 6 - The Web Unravels

Victor’s eyes flickered for a fraction of a second—a micro-expression of panic quickly masked by a confused grin. He leaned against the edge of the desk, projecting innocence. “What are you talking about, Dante? You know I’d take a bullet for you. Who’s getting in your head?”

Dante finally raised his gaze, locking his dark, piercing eyes onto Victor’s face. Slowly, he slid three items across the polished mahogany: a forged financial transfer authorization bearing Victor’s signature, a set of master keys recovered from Victoria’s vanity, and a medical report detailing severe dehydration and confinement trauma.

The color drained entirely from Victor’s face. The casual facade melted away, replaced by the hardening gaze of an ambitious traitor cornered in his own trap. He realized then that denials were futile.

“You should have stayed in Sicily, Dante,” Victor spat, his voice losing its warm brotherly cadence, turning cold and venomous. “You’ve grown soft. Sitting on a throne while the world moves on. Victoria and I built a network while you were busy playing king. The elders are ready for a new era—an era without your medieval rules.”

Before Victor could reach for the concealed holster beneath his tailored jacket, the heavy oak doors of the study flew open. Four armed guards swarmed the room, their weapons training dead-center on Victor’s chest, stripping away any illusion of escape.
