Chapter 8 - The Final Verdict

The verdict was swift and absolute.

Ethan Carter was found guilty on all major counts: aggravated domestic battery, conspiracy to commit financial fraud, and corporate embezzlement. The judge sentenced him to twelve years in state prison with no possibility of parole for the first eight years.

Victoria Carter was indicted as an accessory before and after the fact, her personal bank accounts seized to pay for legal restitution and damages incurred during the corporate audit.

Chloe, facing her own impending criminal indictment and abandoned by both Ethan and Victoria, fled the state before the weekend was over, leaving behind nothing but her designer clothes and a shattered reputation.

As for me, I stood on the front steps of the courthouse under the bright afternoon sun, flanked by my legal team and security detail. Reporters shouted questions, flashing cameras capturing my face as I removed my sunglasses for the first time in weeks.

The scar on my left cheek was still visible—a pale, thin line tracing the path where the brick had shattered my skin. But far from being a mark of defeat, it was a badge of survival. It was a permanent reminder of the day I stopped being naive and started protecting my own legacy.

"Mrs. Sterling! What are your plans for the company now?" a reporter called out.

I paused, looking directly into the camera lens with a calm, unwavering smile.

"Sterling Architectural & Design will continue to innovate, grow, and lead the industry," I said clearly. "And let this serve as a message to anyone who ever mistakes kindness for weakness, or trust for stupidity. You can try to break me with a brick, but you will only end up destroying yourself."

I turned away from the cameras, sliding my sunglasses back on, and stepped into the waiting car.
