Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later, the penthouse office of Aegis Global Media & Tech was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a late spring afternoon.

I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, looking out over the sprawling skyline of the city. Down on the street below, life moved in a chaotic, beautiful rush of cars, pedestrians, and endless motion.

A soft gurgle broke the quiet stillness of the office.

I turned around. Sitting in a plush, ergonomic bassinet near my desk was a healthy, beautiful baby girl wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket, her tiny fingers clutching the edge of a pastel pink rattle. Her dark hair and bright, inquisitive eyes were entirely her own—a living, breathing testament to survival, resilience, and an unbreakable will to live.

The office door clicked open, and Emily Sterling stepped in, holding two cups of artisanal coffee.

"The board meeting just wrapped up," Emily said with a triumphant grin, handing me a cup before walking over to peer down at the bassinet. "We officially closed the European tech acquisition. Aegis Global is now the undisputed market leader in enterprise security and digital infrastructure."

"Good," I smiled, taking a sip of the warm coffee. "Make sure the legal team finalizes the philanthropic endowment for mothers escaping domestic abuse and forced coercion. We set aside the initial capital last week."

Emily looked up, her expression softening into a warm, genuine smile. "It's already in motion, Maya. You know... looking at you now, nobody would ever guess what you went through a year ago."

I looked back out the window, watching the sunlight reflect off the gleaming glass towers of the city we had conquered.

"They tried to bury me," I said softly, reaching down to gently stroke my daughter’s tiny hand as she gripped my finger with surprising strength. "They forgot that I wasn't a seed. I was dynamite."
