Chapter 56 - The Terminal Disconnect

`AUTHENTICATION ACCEPTED.`
`MASTER KEY RECONCILED: PRIMARY HEIR CONFIRMED.`
`OVERRIDE CODE: SCYTHE-001.`
The displays surrounding the central dome flipped instantly from deep red to an icy, blinding blue.
"Kill them!" Jonathan screamed, lunging toward the console.
The two private contractors didn't fire. They were professionals; their tactical displays were tied to the facility’s automated security protocols, which had just locked their weapons' smart-firing pins under emergency authority.
Julian moved with terrifying economy. Before Jonathan could cross the three paces to the keyboard, Julian had swept his legs out from under him, driving his knee into the small of Jonathan’s back as the cashmere coat hit the steel grate with a dull, sickening thwack.
Eleanor backed away, her hands raised, her eyes darting toward the emergency exit stairs that led to the hangar. "Elena... think about what you’re doing. If you purge the clearing system now, the offshore liquidity pool implodes. The Whitmore trust fund—everything that pays for the legal defense, the properties, the endowments—it all goes to zero."
"It went to zero ten years ago, Eleanor," I said, my fingers flying across the terminal interface. "You just haven't looked at the balance sheet without your arrogance blinding you."
`TREASURY CLEARING SYSTEM: REROUTING TO FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK.`
`SUBJUGATION REVERSED: 0.00%.`
`VAULT 001 PROTOCOL: PURGING MASTER NODES.`
"You can't delete it!" Jonathan gasped from beneath Julian's boot, his face pressed against the cold grating. "It’s sixty years of work! Arthur’s life! Father’s life! My life!"
"It was a parasite," I replied, watching the data waterfalls turn into solid walls of static as the magnetic degaussers engaged throughout the lower server vaults. A sound like muffled thunder rippled beneath our feet as hundreds of terabytes of proprietary, predatory ledger data were wiped clean by localized electromagnetic pulses. "And like all parasites, it dies when the host wakes up."
I turned back to the master communications suite and initiated the final transmission—not to an encrypted server in Zurich, and not to a shadow syndicate in Venice.
I sent the unredacted master files, along with the full cryptographic history of the Greenwich subterranean routing switch, directly to the public docket of the Southern District of New York, copied to every major international news desk.
The folder called "FAMILY NIGHT" was no longer a secret weapon held in reserve.

It was now public record.
