Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Ambush

At 10:00 a.m., Richard Holbrook sat at the head of the polished mahogany conference table on the forty-second floor of Aegis Defense Technologies headquarters. Surrounding him were the senior executives of the board, all listening intently as the company's chief financial officer presented the quarterly defense contract projections.

Suddenly, the heavy oak double doors of the boardroom swung open with a resounding crash.

The corporate security chief, a hulking former Navy SEAL named Marcus Cole, stepped forward instinctively, hand moving toward his hip holster. "Hey! You can't enter here—this is a private executive session—"

He stopped dead in his tracks.

Standing in the doorway wasn't a disgruntled employee or a protester. It was Julian Vance, impeccably dressed in a custom Tom Ford suit, flanked by two other men in dark glasses who radiated an aura of lethal, predatory calm. Behind them walked Alexander Sterling, his expression carved from granite.

Richard Holbrook stood up from his leather chair, his face flushing with arrogant fury. "What is the meaning of this? Cole, throw these trespassers out immediately!"

"I wouldn't do that, Richard," Julian said smoothly, stepping into the room and tossing a sleek silver flash drive onto the center of the mahogany table. It slid across the polished wood and came to a halt right next to Richard's coffee cup. "Unless you want every single black-budget embezzlement record, illegal offshore lobbying wire, and Department of Defense bribery log broadcasted to every news outlet and federal regulator in Washington within the next ten seconds."

Richard’s face lost its color. He stared at the flash drive as if it were a venomous snake. "What... what is this?"

"It’s an audit," Alexander spoke for the first time, his voice cutting through the silent boardroom like a razor blade. He walked slowly toward the head of the table, stopping just feet from Richard Holbrook. "An audit of your family, your business, and your pathetic little empire."

"You're out of your depth, Sterling," Richard stammered, trying to regain his composure while the board members watched in stunned silence. "You think because your daughter married my son—"

Smack.

The sound of Alexander’s open palm striking Richard across the face echoed off the glass walls like a gunshot. The billionaire defense contractor staggered backward, crashing into his leather chair and knocking it over onto the floor.

Cole, the security chief, roared in rage and lunged forward, drawing his tactical baton.

Before Cole could take three steps, Julian moved with terrifying speed. A single, blurring sweep of his leg took Cole's feet out from under him, followed by a precision palm strike to the throat that dropped the two-hundred-and-fifty-pound former SEAL to the carpet, gasping for air, completely immobilized in under two seconds.

The entire boardroom erupted in panicked murmurs. Executives scrambled backward, pressing themselves against the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Alexander looked down at Richard Holbrook, who was clutching his bleeding lip on the floor.

"Your son shattered my daughter's face," Alexander said quietly, leaning down so only Richard could hear. "By sunset today, Wyatt will be in police custody facing attempted murder charges. If I hear so much as a whisper of judicial interference from your political friends, I won't just dismantle Aegis Defense Technologies. I will take everything your family owns, brick by brick, until you are sleeping on the street."

Alexander stood up, adjusted his cuffs, and looked around the terrified boardroom.

"Good day, gentlemen," he said calmly.

He turned and walked out of the room, leaving the mighty Holbrook empire in utter ruin.
