Chapter 6 - The Scramble and the Fallout

Over the next forty-and-eight hours, the fallout across the Vance family ecosystem was nothing short of apocalyptic.

Without Arthur’s continuous financial life support, the grand illusion imploded faster than a deflating balloon. Within three hours of the cancellation call, Cedar Grove Estate’s operations manager had locked the front gates. The catering trucks, realizing no deposit balances were forthcoming, turned around in the driveway and drove away. The Amsterdam floral importer canceled the shipment of twelve thousand white roses, redirecting the perishable blooms to a high-profile charity gala in downtown Manhattan instead.

The celebrity photographer, sensing a PR disaster mixed with unpaid retainers, posted a scathing, cryptic Instagram story about "fake billionaires wasting industry professionals' time with bounced checks and empty promises," which instantly went viral within the tri-state wedding planning community.

Worse still was the implosion between Julian and Chloe.

As it turned out, Chloe’s heavily publicized "family trust fund" was just as fictional as Julian’s financial portfolio. Both of them had been playing a high-stakes game of financial chicken, assuming that once the vows were exchanged and the legal knot tied, the other party’s family would magically step in to settle the staggering debts.

When the truth hit the open air in the Cedar Grove parking lot while Chloe’s parents’ limousine idled at the curb, the engagement collapsed in a screaming match that drew campus security. Chloe ripped her cubic zirconia engagement ring off her finger, hurled it at Julian’s chest, climbed back into her parents' car, and ordered the driver to head straight back to the airport.

Julian was left standing alone on the gravel driveway of an estate that would never host his wedding, clutching a dead smartphone and staring down the barrel of a financial ruin he could neither comprehend nor escape.

Meanwhile, Robert Vance tried a different tactic.

By Thursday morning, Arthur’s personal email inbox received a formal legal notice from an aggressive family-law attorney hired by his father, threatening a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against Arthur for "intentional infliction of emotional distress, breach of familial duty, and malicious sabotage of a family milestone."

Arthur simply forwarded the email to Victor Sterling, his corporate attorney.

Within forty minutes, Victor sent back a certified response letter to Robert Vance’s legal counsel. It attached the screenshots of the family group chat where Julian called Arthur a "loser" and Robert gleefully tapped a thumbs-up emoji. It included certified copies of the contracts proving Arthur’s exclusive financial ownership of every single service provider. And it concluded with a polite, razor-sharp reminder: if Robert pursued a single further legal avenue, Arthur’s legal team would immediately counter-sue for full financial restitution of the $110,000, plus fraud charges regarding the misrepresentation of funds.

The legal threats stopped before the ink on the certified letter had even dried.

The family group chat went completely, permanently dead. Not a single relative texted. Not a single aunt posted. The digital echo chamber of cruelty had transformed into a mausoleum of silence.
