Arthur stood on the private wrap-around balcony of his newly purchased penthouse apartment in Tribeca. The sun was dipping below the horizon, painting the Manhattan sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and deep indigo. The city lights were beginning to twinkle to life like a million distant stars, humming with endless possibility.
He held a crystal tumbler filled with single-malt scotch, swirling the amber liquid gently against the ice.
His phone sat on the glass patio table nearby. It buzzed once—a silent, gentle vibration.
Arthur glanced down at the screen. It was an email notification from the executive compensation committee regarding his year-end bonus structure.
