Chapter 7 - Turbulence Ahead

Four hours into the flight, as the aircraft crossed the mid-point of the Atlantic, a sudden, sharp shudder rippled through the airframe. The steady drone of the engines hitched, followed by an immediate chime of the fasten-seatbelt signs.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are experiencing some unexpected high-altitude turbulence,” Captain Elizabeth Hart’s voice crackled smoothly over the intercom. “Please return to your seats and ensure your seatbelts are securely fastened.”
Zara instinctively secured her belt, holding her book steady as the cabin dipped slightly before leveling out. However, down in the galley, a completely different kind of turbulence was brewing.
While Richard Bennett had been successfully offloaded from the flight, his digital footprint and corporate team had not been idle. Back in New York, his firm’s legal department—panicked by the sudden stock dip and loss of priority positioning triggered by his disgraceful exit—had launched an aggressive counter-offensive. They had filed an emergency administrative challenge with the civil aviation authority, claiming that the airline had improperly bumped a primary corporate passenger under false pretenses.
The satellite communication system in the cockpit beeped urgently, flashing a high-priority data packet directly to Elizabeth’s console.
Elizabeth leaned forward, her eyes scanning the encrypted digital memo from corporate dispatch. Her heart skipped a beat. The legal team was threatening an immediate injunction against the airline upon landing at Heathrow, demanding an official investigation into the captain's decision to offload Richard Bennett, citing potential discrimination and breach of contract.
She rubbed her temples, feeling the sudden, crushing weight of corporate bureaucracy threatening to ruin a peaceful flight. If the airline caved to the pressure of Richard’s influential firm, Elizabeth could face severe disciplinary action, or worse, suspension.
She unbuckled her harness, stepped out of the cockpit, and walked down the aisle toward Row 2. She needed to update Zara.
When Elizabeth quietly explained the situation, Zara didn't panic. Instead, she closed her book, folded her hands neatly on her tray table, and looked up at the captain with an expression of absolute resolve.
“They’re trying to bully you into submission because they can't accept that consequences apply to them,” Zara said calmly.

“They have powerful legal representation, Zara,” Elizabeth warned quietly. “If they push this narrative upon landing, it could cause major complications for the airline's upcoming merger talks.”
Zara reached into her red bag, pulled out her phone, and unlocked it. “Then it’s a good thing my father isn't just an operations manager,” she said softly, dialing a new number. “Let’s give them a real legal challenge to worry about.”
