Chapter 2 - The Call That Changes Everything

Richard laughed, a sharp, dismissive sound that echoed through the quiet cabin. “Are you threatening me, child?” he mocked, not even bothering to lower his newspaper again.
Zara didn’t flinch. Calmly, she reached into her sweater pocket and retrieved her smartphone. At that exact moment, Captain Elizabeth Hart glanced down at the boarding pass in her hand once more, finally registering the surname printed beneath the barcode.
Coleman.
Elizabeth’s breath caught in her throat. Her eyes darted from the name to the teenager standing patiently beside the disputed seat. The pieces clicked together with terrifying speed.
Without hesitation, Zara tapped on a protected favorite contact labeled DAD — OPERATIONS and pressed the call button. The phone rang precisely once before a deep, commanding voice answered on the other end. Zara spoke clearly, her voice cutting through the hushed murmur of the cabin.
“Dad? There’s a corporate passenger who took my First Class seat and refuses to move.”
Richard chuckled behind his paper, entirely convinced he was witnessing a spoiled teenager staging a theatrical performance for her parents. Elizabeth, however, had gone completely rigid. A cold sweat broke out across her forehead as she comprehended the sheer magnitude of the situation unfolding before her.
“Flight number?” her father's voice resonated faintly through the speaker, crisp and loaded with quiet authority.
“Flight 212, New York to London,” Zara replied, her eyes locked on the captain's increasingly pale face.
On the other end of the line, a brief pause hung in the air, followed by a sharp instruction. Zara listened intently, nodding once. Simultaneously, down at the front of the aircraft, the heavy main boarding door began its slow, mechanical sweep toward the frame, sealing the cabin for departure.
Zara looked directly at the captain and repeated her words, her voice laced with eerie calm: “Dad, they took my seat.”

Elizabeth looked toward the closing door, panic gripping her chest. She knew what corporate weight stood behind the Coleman name, and she knew the catastrophic implications of stranding a principal family member—or worse, ignoring a direct operational hold.
With only seconds remaining before the massive locking pins engaged, Elizabeth raised her hand in a frantic gesture, shouting across the galley, “HOLD THE DOOR!”
