Chapter 10 - Epilogue: A New Dawn

One year later.
The sunlit courtyard of our Carmel home was filled with laughter, the soft clinking of teacups, and the joyful gurgle of a thriving one-year-old baby girl named Miriam—after her remarkable grandmother.
Little Miriam had tufts of soft, dark hair and the brightest, most curious eyes you had ever seen. She was crawling across the plush outdoor rug, chasing a wooden toy duck while my mother laughed, scooping her up into her arms and lifting her high into the air.
As I watched them from the porch, a warm shadow fell across me. I looked up to see Julian Vance—no relation to my toxic ex, thank goodness—walking out of the house carrying a tray of fresh lemonade. Julian was a local marine biologist and conservationist whom I had met during a community coastline restoration project six months earlier. He was kind, grounded, fiercely protective, and adored my mother and daughter with a devotion that brought tears to my eyes.
“Careful, little captain,” Julian smiled, kneeling down to let baby Miriam grab onto his finger with her tiny hand. “Your grandmother and I are going to teach you how to sail before you can even walk.”

I smiled, accepting a glass of lemonade from his hand and leaning my head against his shoulder.
Far away in San Jose, Brandon Sterling was a distant, forgotten memory—a cautionary tale of what happens when someone trades genuine loyalty for shallow vanity and pride. Here, in this sun-drenched sanctuary by the sea, there was no bitterness left. There was only peace, family, and the quiet, beautiful certainty that the best chapters of our lives were only just beginning.
