Chapter 9 - The New Empire

Six months later, the underground world had completely rewritten its rules.
The Foundry was no longer just an abandoned factory hosting brutal illegal fights; it had been transformed into a legitimate, high-end security and logistics hub controlled jointly by the Sterling-Grey alliance. The violence of the streets had been channeled into corporate power, and no one—absolutely no one—dared cross the path of the syndicate's new queen.
Inside the executive penthouse suite overlooking the glittering downtown skyline, Aria sat behind a massive mahogany desk, reviewing financial ledgers and security reports.
The door opened quietly, and Cassius walked in, carrying a fresh cup of coffee. He set it gently beside her laptop, leaning down to press a soft kiss against the top of her head.
"You've been working for twelve hours straight," Cassius noted, his tone gently scolding. "Even the queen of the underworld needs to sleep."
"I'm just tying up the final audits from the European shipping routes," Aria replied without looking up, though a faint smile touched her lips. "Unlike some people, I actually like to keep my empire running efficiently."
Cassius chuckled, pulling up a chair and sitting right beside her. "The board meeting in Zurich went through this morning. Sterling-Grey Enterprises is officially the largest private conglomerate on the continent. Your grandfather would be proud."
Aria stopped typing, leaned back in her leather chair, and turned to look at him. "He would be. And you... you surprised me, Cassius. I thought running an empire would make you soft."
"Soft?" Cassius raised an eyebrow, a dangerous glint flashing in his dark eyes. "Try me."
Before she could reply, her phone buzzed on the desk with a priority alert from the security perimeter downstairs.
Aria glanced at the screen, then looked back up at Cassius. A slow, thrilling smile spread across her face.
"It seems we have a few uninvited guests trying to breach the western fence," Aria said calmly, standing up and smoothing out her blazer. "Want to race to see who takes them down first?"
May you like
Cassius stood up right beside her, grabbing his jacket from the back of the chair.
"You're on," he smirked, his eyes burning with the same adrenaline that had brought them together in the smoke-filled halls of the Foundry. "Loser buys dinner for the next week."
