Chapter 4 - The Legal Storm Brews

By morning, the local news outlets had picked up the story. “Sterling Financial VP and Mother Arrested in Brutal Domestic Assault of Pregnant Wife.” The headlines flashed across television screens in every coffee shop and office building downtown. Social media platforms were already ablaze with commentary, outrage, and speculation.

I sat in the secure conference room of my newly appointed attorney, Marcus Vance’s recommended civil and criminal litigator, Sarah Lin. Sarah was a fierce, razor-sharp lawyer known for dismantling high-profile corporate and domestic abusers.

Spread across the conference table were bank statements, property deeds, and the official transcription of the dashcam audio.

"They're already trying to post bail," Sarah said without looking up from a document. "Their defense team is claiming the audio is heavily manipulated, out of context, or artificially generated using advanced AI tools."

I let out a dry, humorless laugh. "Of course they are. They can never admit fault. Accountability is a foreign concept in that household."

"Fortunately for us," Sarah smiled, pointing a red pen at a technical compliance sheet, "the dashcam metadata is pristine. The truck driver, Marcus Jenkins, is a federal postal worker whose vehicle camera is calibrated and maintained under strict federal oversight. The digital signature on the audio file is unbreakable. Furthermore, Dr. Hayes’ medical testimony establishes a direct timeline that matches every cadence of the audio."

"What about the assets?" I asked, leaning forward. "Richard controls the family trust, and Eleanor holds the title to the primary estate. If they manage to drain the accounts, I won't have the resources to raise my baby safely."

"Way ahead of them," Sarah said, tapping a court filing stamped Emergency Asset Freeze. "I’ve already secured an emergency injunction freezing all joint accounts, personal portfolios, and corporate holdings tied to Richard and Eleanor Sterling. Not a single cent can be moved without judicial approval. Furthermore, we’ve filed for an immediate restraining order that grants you exclusive occupancy of the estate while the criminal proceedings play out."

I blinked in surprise. "I can go back there? To live?"

"Not just live there," Sarah corrected, her eyes gleaming with tactical brilliance. "Take inventory. Gather every piece of historical documentation, every hidden journal, every text message stored on their home servers. We aren't just defending yourself, Clara. We are dismantling their entire empire."
