Chapter 8 - A Bright New Morning

A week later, the morning sun rose bright and warm over Grand Avenue.
The air smelled of fresh rain, sweet coffee, and blooming flowers.
Sophia’s Bloom was completely transformed.
The new glass bay window sparkled in the sunlight, showcasing stunning arrangements of red roses, white lilies, orchids, and fresh greenery. The interior of the shop was clean, warm, and inviting, filled with the cheerful laughter of customers.
A brand-new gold-painted sign hung above the entrance: Sophia & Emma’s Bloom.
I stood across the street wearing a casual dark suit, watching through the clean glass as Sophia wrapped a bouquet of tulips for a smiling customer.
She looked healthy, vibrant, and beautiful. Her injuries had healed, leaving only a small, faint scar near her temple that gave her gentle face a sense of resilient grace.
The shop door opened with a cheerful chime, and little Emma ran out onto the sidewalk wearing a bright white lace dress and clean shoes.
She saw me standing across the street and her face lit up instantly.
“Mr. Alessandro!” she called out, running across the pedestrian walkway.
I stepped forward, crouching down on one knee just as I had done on that dark night at Bella Notte.
Emma ran right into my arms, hugging me tightly around the neck.
“Look!” she beamed, pulling back to show me a small hand-drawn card she had made with colorful crayons. “I drew this for you!”

On the card was a drawing of a big building, a flower, and a man in a black suit holding hands with a little girl in a white dress.
Above the drawing, written in neat child's handwriting, were the words: Thank you for saving us.
