Chapter 7 - The Truth Unveiled

An hour later, the diner was sealed off by security teams, while a private mobile luxury coach was brought to the parking lot to provide warmth and safety for Elena, Maya, and Damian.
Inside the quiet, heated interior of the coach, Maya lay asleep on a leather sofa, wrapped in a warm wool blanket, holding her fixed silver bracelet.
Elena sat across from Damian at a small mahogany table, holding a warm cup of tea.
"He told me you hated me, Damian," Elena confessed, staring down at the steam rising from her cup. "Your father came to my apartment the night after I found out I was pregnant. He brought photos of you with another woman... a wealthy heiress from New York."
Damian closed his eyes, leaning his head back against the seat in profound sorrow.
"It was staged," Damian said softly. "He wanted me to marry into the Sterling family to secure our shipping merger. When I refused, he realized you were the reason I was walking away from the empire. He manipulated both of us, Elena. He used your love for me to push you away, and he used my grief to turn me into a monster."
Elena looked at Damian’s hands—weathered, strong, marked by scars and faint black ink tattoos winding up his wrists beneath his crisp shirt cuffs.
"Have you been a monster, Damian?" she asked gently.
Damian looked her dead in the eyes.
"I built an enterprise that destroyed everyone who ever tried to hurt you or this family," Damian said honestly. "I became ruthless because I thought I had nothing left to lose. But the moment I saw Maya’s eyes tonight... I realized I had everything to lose."
Elena looked across the cabin at their sleeping daughter.

"She has your smile, too," Elena whispered. "And when she's angry... she crosses her arms and stares at the wall just like you used to do."
Damian felt a warm tear slide down his face, a feeling of deep relief washing over his soul for the first time in seven years.
