Chapter 10 - The Sanctuary

Two years later.

A quiet evening at the Hamptons estate.

The sun was setting over the ocean, painting the sky in deep shades of gold, rose, and purple.

In the nursery, the warm glow of a bedside lamp illuminated the room.

Veronica sat on the edge of Lily’s bed, holding an open storybook, while Rose curled up beside her sister, both girls listening intently with sleepy eyes.

Rory leaned against the doorframe, watching them in silence, a look of profound contentment on his face.

When the story finished, Veronica closed the book gently, tucking the blankets around the girls' shoulders.

"Goodnight, my sweet angels," Veronica whispered, kissing each of their foreheads.

"Goodnight, Mommy Veronica," Lily mumbled sleepily, closing her eyes.

Veronica froze for a moment, her heart leaping into her throat at the word, before a soft, radiant smile filled her face. She looked up at Rory standing in the doorway.

Rory walked into the room silently, bending down to kiss both of his daughters goodnight.

He reached out, taking Veronica’s hand, leading her softly out into the quiet, starlit corridor.

They walked hand-in-hand down the grand hallway, stopping by the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the calm ocean.

Rory reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. He opened it, revealing a brilliant solitaire diamond ring that caught the starlight.

"Veronica," Rory said, his voice deep and filled with unwavering devotion. "You brought light back into this house when it was completely dark. You loved my daughters as your own, and you gave me a reason to build a better world. Will you marry me?"

Veronica looked from the glittering ring to the strong, noble man standing before her.

"Yes, Rory," she whispered, her voice filled with emotion. "Yes."

He slipped the ring onto her finger, pulling her into his arms and kissing her deeply under the peaceful night sky.

Inside the nursery, the twin girls slept deeply and soundly, untroubled by shadows, wrapped in the absolute warmth of a home built on love, truth, and unbroken protection.
