Chapter 5 - Unmasking the Rot

Within forty-eight hours of the incident, Roman Black’s internal security sweep dismantled a massive internal corruption ring operating within the Black Crown Casino Hotel. Trent Lawson’s firing was only the tip of the iceberg. Investigators discovered that a syndicate of corrupt contractors had been systematically substituting substandard steel cables in the west tower elevators to embezzle renovation funds.

Had Evan not heard the micro-fractures vibrating through the concrete, the structural collapse would have occurred during peak operational hours, resulting in catastrophic loss of life.

Meera moved into her new executive office on the twentieth floor—a spacious, sunlit suite converted partly into an administrative workspace and partly into a sensory-friendly creative studio for Evan. For the first time in her life, Meera didn't have to worry about rent, grocery bills, or whether she could afford Evan’s weekly therapy sessions. The Black Crown’s medical foundation covered everything, backed by a personal guarantee from Roman Black himself.
