Chapter 10 - A New Empire

Six months later, the Black Crown Casino Hotel stood as a symbol of absolute security and uncompromising integrity. Marcus Vance and his co-conspirators were behind bars, facing federal racketeering charges that would keep them locked away for the rest of their natural lives.
Trent Lawson was serving time for corporate fraud, serving as a bitter reminder of the cost of greed.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, the private penthouse terrace of the Black Crown was bathed in golden sunlight. The city skyline stretched out endlessly beneath them, peaceful, orderly, and running smoothly.
Meera stood by the glass railing, watching the gentle breeze lift her hair. She no longer had to worry about rent, or hiding in service corridors, or whether she could afford the next therapy session for her son. She was now the head of the entire Black Crown infrastructural compliance division, respected by every executive and feared by every corrupt contractor in the city.
A few feet away, Evan sat at a large wooden table, completely absorbed in coloring a brand-new, enormous drawing of a skyscraper—using only the finest, brightest blue crayons money could buy.
Roman Black walked over, holding two glasses of sparkling apple cider. He handed one to Meera and set the other down gently near Evan’s drawing pad.
"How’s the building sounding today, Evan?" Roman asked, leaning against the railing beside Meera.
Evan didn't look up from his masterpiece, but a bright, radiant smile broke across his face.
"Quiet, Mr. Roman," the boy replied happily. "The building is singing a happy song."
Roman looked at Meera, and for the first time in his ruthless, calculated life, the untouchable mafia kingpin felt something he hadn't known he was missing: a genuine, unshakeable home.

Meera raised her glass toward Roman, her eyes shining with quiet triumph. "To good engineering," she smiled softly.
"And to listening to the right people," Roman replied, clinking his glass against hers as the city hummed peacefully far below them.
