Chapter 6 - The Digital Ghost

The basement server room of the Ashford estate was cold, humming with the steady drone of four massive mainframe towers cooling down under blue LED lights.
Felix tapped rapidly on a mechanical keyboard, lines of encrypted code scrolling across three dual monitors. Standing behind him, Dominic watched the screen with an expressionless mask.
“She wasn't lying, boss,” Felix muttered, pointing a pen at a flashing data tree. “This microchip isn't just a basic text file. It’s an encrypted virtual vault. It maps out every shell corporation Vincent Caldwell opened over the past ten years, routing numbers, Swiss bank accounts, and notarized payoffs to federal judges, police captains, and city councilmen.”
“Can we crack the master key?” Dominic asked.
“It’s layered behind a bio-metric and cognitive passphrase,” Felix explained, rubbing the back of his neck. “Standard brute force would wipe the drive instantly. But... look at this string of characters embedded in the header.”
Dominic leaned closer. “Coordinates.”
“Exactly,” Felix nodded. “An old abandoned grain silo off Route 9. Whoever set this up left a secondary physical backup key in a lockbox there. If we get that key, we can unlock the whole vault and upload it simultaneously to every major news outlet and federal prosecutor’s office in the country before Caldwell even realizes his network is compromised.”
“Get Marco and a tactical team ready,” Dominic ordered, straightening up. “We move in thirty minutes.”

“Should we tell her?” Felix asked quietly.
Dominic paused at the heavy steel door of the server room. “No. The less Elena knows about where the backup key is hidden, the safer she stays here.”
