Chapter 10 - A Christmas Redeemed

December rolled around again with the quiet, majestic inevitability of the seasons.
The house was buried under a thick, pristine blanket of white snow, the neighborhood glowing with festive golden lights. Inside, the living room smelled once more of pine needles, roasting garlic, and sweet cinnamon.
At the head of the mahogany dining table sat Clara.
Her hair was silver now, her frame delicate as spun glass, but her face radiated a luminous, untouchable peace. Around the table, Mark and Lucas bustled back and forth, carrying heavy serving dishes, laughing, arguing playfully over who burned the rolls, and treating every moment together like a precious, irreplaceable gift.
There was no cold gravy. There were no forgotten chestnuts. Every single dish was prepared with care, laughter, and deep, abiding devotion.
As Mark carved the golden prime rib and placed a steaming, perfect slice onto Clara’s plate, he leaned down and kissed the top of her head, whispering, "Merry Christmas, my love."
"Merry Christmas, Mark," Clara smiled, looking around the table at her husband and her son.
Lucas raised his water glass, his eyes shining with unshed tears, looking at Clara with a love so fierce and pure it transcended biology, blood, and time itself.
"To Mom," Lucas said, his voice ringing clear and strong through the warm, brightly lit room. "The heart of this family. Today, tomorrow, and always."

"To Mom," Mark echoed, raising his glass alongside his son.
Clara smiled, lifting her own glass in a quiet toast. As she looked out across the table, feeling the steady, rhythmic beating of the life they shared, she knew the balance was zero, the debt was gone, and what remained was an eternal, unbreakable legacy of love that would echo through their hearts forever.
