Chapter 8 - Eviction Notice

Two days after the boardroom arrests, a moving truck and a pair of Dallas County sheriff’s deputies pulled up to the grand iron gates of the Bennett family estate.

Patricia Bennett, having posted bail late the previous evening, stood on the expansive marble front porch of the mansion, arms crossed, glaring at the deputies as they marched up the driveway. Marcus, also out on bail, stood beside her, looking hollowed out and desperate.

Julian Vance stepped out of the lead vehicle, carrying a formal legal packet, accompanied by two court-mandated moving coordinators.

“What is the meaning of this?” Patricia shrieked, marching down the steps. “This is our home! My son bought this estate!”

Julian stopped at the base of the stairs, adjusting his briefcase. “Actually, Mrs. Bennett, it never belonged to Marcus. Deed Registry 448-B clearly establishes this property as Valerie Bennett’s sole and separate premarital inheritance.”

Julian handed a formal document to Marcus. “Furthermore, pursuant to the emergency protective orders and the formal eviction decree issued by the district court this morning, both of you are ordered to vacate the premises within two hours. All personal belongings will be packed and transferred to temporary storage.”

Marcus stared at the eviction notice, his hands shaking. “Valerie sent you, didn’t she? Where is she? I want to speak to my wife!”

“Your wife is currently at corporate headquarters, managing a multimillion-dollar development portfolio, and she has explicitly filed for a fast-track divorce on grounds of extreme cruelty and criminal conspiracy,” Julian replied evenly. “You have one hundred and twenty minutes to gather your things and leave. If you step foot on this property again, you will violate a felony protective order.”

Patricia burst into furious tears, hurling insults at the deputies as they calmly supervised the removal of her belongings from the grand foyer where she had once stood judgment over Valerie. Within two hours, the mansion was completely cleared of their presence, returning peace and rightful ownership to its true master.
