Chapter 7 - Dismantling the Crown

With Marcus and Patricia removed from the premises, the immediate crisis at Bennett Construction Group stabilized instantly. Arthur Pendelton convened an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors later that afternoon to formally ratify Valerie Bennett as Chief Executive Officer and President, merging her seventy percent equity control with absolute executive authority.
The boardroom, once a site of intimidation and hostile posturing, now resonated with unanimous applause from the senior partners and investors who had flown in from Houston.
“For too long, operations at Bennett Construction have been clouded by mismanaged vanity projects and unchecked executive overreach,” Valerie announced, standing at the head of the conference table. Her voice was calm, powerful, and commanding. “Starting today, we return to our core values: fiscal discipline, transparent leadership, and absolute integrity. Every project will undergo rigorous financial auditing, and our commitment to our workforce and investors remains our highest priority.”

Arthur Pendelton smiled approvingly from the side of the room. “The restructuring documents have already been filed with the Texas Secretary of State. Furthermore, all unauthorized corporate expenditures initiated by Marcus Bennett over the past twenty-four months are undergoing forensic legal review for asset recovery.”
As the meeting adjourned, investors lined up to shake Valerie’s hand, expressing profound relief and renewed confidence in the company’s future. The shadow that Marcus had cast over her professional achievements was gone, replaced by the undeniable reality that Valerie had been the true architect of the empire all along.
