Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

The sun rose over the city the next morning in a blaze of gold and amber, burning away the last lingering shadows of the past.
I sat at the kitchen island—the very spot where my old life had violently unraveled months ago—drinking a cup of freshly brewed coffee in the quiet morning light. The ivory silk robe Grant had once given me was long gone, donated to a shelter months ago along with every other remnant of a fabricated past. In its place, I wore a comfortable, vibrant yellow sundress that caught the morning light.
Leo toddled into the kitchen, clinging to the edge of the island, letting out a joyful squeal as he reached up toward my coffee mug with sticky little fingers.
I laughed, picking him up and setting him right on my lap, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
"Ready for our walk, little man?" I asked.
He clapped his hands together, babbling happily in his own secret language.
We walked out the front door together, stepping into the warm morning sunshine. The street stretched out before us, wide, open, and entirely unwritten. The ghosts of deception were gone, buried beneath the weight of truth and resilience.

I locked the front door behind me—not running away, not packing a bag in secret, but stepping forward as the sole master of my own destiny.
The affair, the betrayal, the corporate conspiracies—they were just chapters in a book I had already finished reading. My true story was just beginning, and for the first time in my life, every single page belonged to me.
