Chapter 4 - The Legal Trap Closes

Over the next forty-eight hours, Marcus Vance moved with the precision of a military commander executing a classified operation.

First thing on January 2nd, Marcus filed an emergency ex parte motion with the Hennepin County District Court. Backed by medical records from the emergency room and sworn affidavits from Valerie, the judge signed an immediate, comprehensive restraining order. It commanded Charles, Brian, Patricia, and Lauren to stay at least five hundred yards away from Valerie, her workplace, her medical providers, and the Minneapolis penthouse.

Second, Marcus submitted the authentic, original property deeds, complete with Valerie’s sole-proprietorship purchase records dating back two full years before her marriage to Brian. The court immediately issued an emergency injunction invalidating any fraudulent transfer attempts, completely shattering Charles and Brian’s delusional claim over the property.

Third, the Minneapolis Police Department acted swiftly on the digital evidence provided by building security. Armed with unassailable high-definition video footage showing Charles committing felony second-degree assault against a pregnant woman, and Brian actively acting as an accomplice by physically pinning her wrists, the district attorney’s office bypassed standard delays and issued immediate arrest warrants.

The trap snapped shut on the evening of January 3rd.

Charles was picked up by police officers while sitting at his favorite neighborhood bar, his smug bravado evaporating the moment the steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists.

Brian was apprehended in the lobby of the very office building where Valerie worked, just as he was attempting to slip past security to beg for another chance. As the police hauled him away in front of his former colleagues and corporate peers, Brian realized that his golden parachute had turned into an anchor pulling him straight to the bottom.
