Chapter 10 - The Prince and the Washerwoman

Six months later.

The autumn sun was shining brightly over the estate, casting golden light across the manicured lawns and the glittering waters of the harbor.

The garden cottage had been completely renovated and turned into a cozy art studio for me, while the east wing of the main mansion was now our permanent home.

Outside on the grand lawn, a grand celebration was taking place.

It was Emma’s fourth birthday.

The lawn was decorated with colorful balloons, a giant bouncy castle, and tables filled with sweets, cakes, and flowers. Children from the local neighborhood and the families of Alessandro’s lieutenants were running around, laughing and playing games.

Emma was wearing a delicate white sparkly lace dress, her dark hair styled in soft curls. She was running across the grass, holding a small toy horse, her laughter ringing out clear and pure across the property.

I stood on the stone terrace wearing an elegant rose-colored dress, leaning against the marble railing with a glass of champagne in my hand.

A pair of strong arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind.

I leaned back against Alessandro’s broad chest, feeling his warm breath against my ear.

“She looks happy,” Alessandro whispered softly, watching Emma play.

“She is happy,” I smiled, turning my head to kiss his cheek. “We both are.”

Alessandro turned me around in his arms, looking down at me with profound love and devotion. Over the past six months, the cold, ruthless 'Wolf of the East River' had transformed into a loving, protective partner and a devoted father figure to my daughter.

“Mr. Wolf!” Emma’s little voice called out from the lawn.

She came sprinting up the stone steps, her dress fluttering in the autumn breeze, holding up a small piece of paper.

Alessandro chuckled, stepping back and dropping to one knee as Emma ran into his arms.

“What do you have there, little one?” he asked, hugging her tightly.

“I made a drawing for you!” Emma declared proudly, handing him the paper.

Alessandro unfolded it. It was a crude, colorful child’s drawing depicting three figures standing hand-in-hand in front of a giant mansion under a bright yellow sun. At the bottom, in messy block letters, was written: MY FAMILY.

Alessandro stared at the drawing for a long moment, his eyes glistening with happy tears.

He looked up at me, holding out his hand.

I stepped forward and placed my hand in his, wrapping my fingers around his.

“Thank you, Emma,” Alessandro whispered, kissing her forehead before pulling both of us into a warm, tight embrace. “It’s the best picture in the world.”

Under the warm autumn sun, surrounded by safety, love, and laughter, the quiet mansion above the harbor was no longer a place of shadows and secrets.

It was our home.
