Chapter 10 - The Horizon

The flight climbed steadily through the heavy overcast layers until it broke cleanly out into the blinding, uninterrupted brilliance of the upper atmosphere. Below them, a rolling sea of pristine white clouds stretched out toward the distant horizon, illuminated by the golden warmth of the midday sun.
Amelia sat by the window in Seat 1A, her laptop screen casting a soft, steady glow across her face. The financial models for Trans-Global Airlines were complex, sprawling across dozens of intricate spreadsheets and legal drafts, but every single line of data was falling precisely into place under her disciplined, unyielding focus.
A soft chime sounded throughout the cabin, signaling that cruising altitude had been reached.
Moments later, the aisle curtain parted, and a flight attendant stepped into the first-class cabin pushing a polished silver cart. It wasn't Linda Marlow, and it wasn't Steve Caldwell; it was a young, attentive crew member wearing a crisp, newly updated Northstar-affiliated uniform that reflected the airline’s modern, professional corporate overhaul.
The attendant stopped beside Seat 1A, offering a warm, genuine smile.
“Good afternoon, Ms. Clare. Would you care for some freshly brewed coffee while you work?”
Amelia looked up from her screen, returning the smile with quiet, easy grace.
“That would be wonderful, thank you,” she said.
The hot coffee was poured into a delicate porcelain cup, sending a thin, aromatic wisp of steam curling up into the crisp cabin air. Amelia took a slow sip, tasting the rich, dark roast, and leaned back comfortably against her headrest.

For the first time in weeks, there were no emergency conference calls waiting on her phone. There were no panicked CEOs, no hostile bondholders, no condescending gate agents demanding she justify her place in the world. There was only the quiet hum of the jet engines, the endless expanse of blue sky stretching out beyond the window, and the absolute, hard-earned knowledge that she had built her seat, earned her place, and mastered her destiny from the ground up.
Amelia turned her gaze back to the glowing screen, her fingers resting lightly on the aluminum keyboard, ready for whatever challenge waited at the landing gate.
