Chapter 10 - THE LIFE WE CHOOSE

Two years later.

The ocean breeze blew softly across the cliffside terrace of a beautiful estate overlooking the Pacific coast.

White silk curtains fluttered in the warm sun, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of jasmine and ocean sea salt.

Claire stood before a full-length mirror inside the bride's room, wearing an breathtaking white silk gown. It was simple, elegant, and perfectly fitted—a masterpiece of design that required no loud diamonds or ostentatious lace to prove its worth.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

Arthur walked into the room. He wore a crisp, tailored black tuxedo that fitted him like a glove—a gift from Julian, who had taken Arthur to his personal tailor six weeks prior, treating him like royalty.

Arthur stood in the doorway, his eyes shining with tears as he looked at his daughter.

"You are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen, Claire," Arthur whispered, his voice trembling with deep emotion.

Claire walked over to her father, taking his hands in hers. "Thank you for everything, Dad. Thank you for teaching me how to stand up for myself."

Arthur smiled warmly, gently smoothing the fabric of her shoulder. "You always had the courage inside you, sweetheart. You just needed to realize that you deserved to be loved by people who saw your value."

A few minutes later, the gentle strains of a string quartet echoed across the sunny cliffside terrace.

Claire walked down the white-petal-covered aisle, her arm looped tightly through her father's.

Standing at the end of the aisle beneath an arch of white roses was Julian.

His eyes were fixed entirely on Claire as she walked toward him. There was no phone in his hand. There was no distraction in his gaze. There was only absolute, unconditional love and reverence.

Beside Julian, sitting in the front row, was Elena, looking stunning in a light blue silk gown, weeping tears of pure joy.

As Arthur handed Claire’s hand to Julian, he looked the younger man in the eye.

"Take care of my daughter, Julian," Arthur said.

Julian took Claire’s hand, holding it with gentle, unbreakable strength.

"With my life, Arthur," Julian promised softly. "With my life."

They turned toward the ocean, facing the minister as the golden sun began its slow, breathtaking descent toward the horizon.

Claire looked out at the vast, shining ocean before her. She thought briefly of the dark, suffocating room beneath the crystal chandelier at The Grand View Manor, of the spilled red wine, and of the five minutes that had changed the course of her destiny forever.

She had lost a marriage built on cowardice and vanity.

But in return, she had gained her freedom, her dignity, her family's peace, and a true love that no amount of money could ever buy.

Claire smiled, squeezed Julian’s hand tightly, and stepped forward into the radiant, beautiful future she had created for herself.
