Chapter 9 - The Dual Execution

Trembling so violently that the pen clattered against the smooth wood of the table before he finally managed to grip it, Brandon reached out. His fingers were slick with cold sweat. The reality of his total, catastrophic ruin pressed down on his chest like a hydraulic press. He had possessed everything—a brilliant, devoted wife who owned empires, a guaranteed multi-million-dollar future, and a life of limitless privilege—and he had traded it all for a blue plastic bucket of dirty laundry and his mother’s toxic approval.
With a ragged, broken sob escaping his lips, Brandon dragged the tip of the fountain pen across the signature line of the divorce decree.
Scratch. Scratch.
The ink bled into the paper, sealing his doom. He pushed the papers back across the table toward Claire, his hands falling limply to his sides.
"It's done," Brandon whispered, his voice hollow and dead. "Are you happy now? You destroyed my company, you destroyed my marriage, you destroyed my entire life."
Claire picked up the documents, reviewed his signature with meticulous care, and slid them neatly into her leather portfolio. She stood up from her executive chair, adjusting the cuffs of her Tom Ford suit with effortless elegance.
"You destroyed your own life, Brandon, long before you ever walked into my apartment," Claire replied, her voice devoid of any lingering malice—just cold, absolute indifference.
She turned toward the private exit door leading to her personal executive elevator, pausing for a fraction of a second to look back at him one last time.

"You can keep the blue bucket, Brandon," she said softly. "You and your mother are going to need it."
With that, the private elevator doors parted silently behind her, swallowing her into the upper atmosphere of her world, leaving Brandon kneeling alone on the cold marble floor of a dead corporation’s boardroom, staring blankly into an empty, ruined future.
