Chapter 6 - Escaping the Cage

As flashlights from the arriving sheriff's deputies flooded the house through the broken front entrance, the atmosphere shifted from a standoff to a formal rescue operation. Paramedics rushed into the kitchen, immediately surrounding Elena with professional care, checking her vitals, and preparing a portable monitor to ensure the baby was entirely safe from the morning's trauma.

Alex stayed right by her stretcher, his hand firmly holding hers. As the medics wheeled her past Trent, the broken husband tried to lunge forward one last time, desperate to salvage his fragile dignity.

Elena turned her head on the pillow, looking at the man who had tried to break her for two long years. The fear that once paralyzed her was entirely gone, replaced by a profound, radiant clarity.
