Chapter 10 - The Architect of Her Own Destiny

The evening air was crisp and clear as I stepped out of the Phoenix Holdings tower and walked down the wide granite steps toward the plaza. The city lights were beginning to twinkle against the twilight sky, casting a warm, golden glow over the bustling sidewalks.

I paused at the corner, looking up at the illuminated signage bearing the company name. The bold, modern letters stood out against the glass facade, shining brighter than anything Dominic Vance had ever built in his entire life.

For eighteen months, I had been a prisoner in my own home, told where to stand, how to speak, and how to survive. They had tried to break my spirit, crush my hands, and erase my identity. They had assumed that a woman crawling on the kitchen floor begging for help was at the end of her rope.

They hadn't realized she was just reaching for the trigger.

A familiar black sedan pulled up smoothly to the curb, and Chloe rolled down the passenger-side window, flashing a conspiratorial grin. "Are you coming or what? We have a celebration dinner to get to, and I’m not letting you skip dessert."

I smiled, stepping off the curb and sliding into the comfortable leather seat of the car. As the vehicle pulled away into the evening traffic, passing by the illuminated landmarks of the city I had helped design, build, and reclaim, I looked down at my right hand resting on my lap.

The silver scars caught the amber streetlamps through the window glass. I flexed my fingers slowly, feeling the steady, unbroken pulse of my own strength.

Dominic was behind bars. Victoria and Arthur were stripped of their pretension. The empire they had weaponized against me was now the foundation of my own independence.

I wasn't a victim anymore. I wasn't a survivor hiding in the shadows.

I was the architect. And the blueprint of my future belonged to me alone.
