Chapter 6 - The Night of Strategy and Retribution

The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur of controlled, methodical action. Once the remaining relatives had quietly gathered their belongings, offered their deepest apologies, and departed, our home felt simultaneously lighter and heavier—purged of toxic air, yet weighted by the gravity of what had just occurred.

While my sister Chloe gently bathed a sleepy, emotionally exhausted Lily, washed the sticky pink frosting from her hair, and tucked her safely into bed with her favorite stuffed rabbit, I went to work.

I knew Ryan. I knew how manipulative, litigious, and desperate he could become when his reputation and income were threatened. He wouldn't go down quietly. He would try to spin the narrative, delete evidence, or gaslight me into submission by morning.

I marched into his home office, booted up his primary desktop computer, and located the hidden folder where all the raw, unedited footage from the birthday crown's wireless transmitter had automatically backed up.

My fingers flew across the keyboard. I copied every single video file, audio recording, and metadata log onto three separate, high-capacity external hard drives. I unplugged them, slipping one into my pocket, hiding the second in a locked filing cabinet, and packing the third into a secure bag.

Next, I opened my email client, attached the most damning clips—including Ryan’s explicit audio confession regarding the TikTok monetization scheme and the footage of Diane shoving Lily’s face into the cake—and composed a detailed, comprehensive message to the most aggressive, highly recommended family law attorney in the city.

Subject: Emergency Custody & Restraining Order Petition – Premeditated Child Abuse for Financial Gain.

I hit send at precisely 9:45 PM.

Minutes later, my phone began vibrating incessantly on the desk. Ryan’s name flashed across the screen, followed by a barrage of frantic text messages:

Ryan: Em, please pick up. We need to talk. You're ruining everything over a misunderstanding.

Ryan: My lawyer says you can't lock me out of my own house. Don't do something stupid.

Ryan: Think of the brand deals! Think of Lily! We can handle this privately!

I didn't even bother unlocking the screen. I simply long-pressed his contact card, selected Block Contact, and sent his number straight to the digital abyss. Then, I walked back to Lily’s room, slipped quietly under the covers beside her, and held my daughter close, watching her chest rise and fall in peaceful sleep as I plotted the systematic destruction of her father's empire.
