Chapter 5 - Eyes in the Walls

Armed with Margaret’s advice and Marcus Vance’s legal expertise, Morgan executed the next phase of her plan with chilling precision.

She returned to the apartment that evening, playing the role of the docile, slightly intimidated wife. Julian, clearly agitated from days of searching for the missing necklace without success, was drinking heavily in the living room.

“Morgan,” Julian said, his voice slurred with alcohol and suppressed aggression. “Where is that necklace I gave you? Be honest. Did you lose it?”

Morgan looked down, feigning guilt. “I… I think I misplaced it, Julian. I took it off before my shower a few nights ago, and now I can't find it anywhere.”

Julian slammed his glass down on the coffee table, shattering the fragile facade of domestic tranquility. He stood up, towering over her, his face flushed red. “You lost it?! Do you have any idea how much that cost? You’re so careless! You ruin everything!”

He raised his hand back instinctively, as if to strike her.

Morgan didn't flinch. She locked her eyes onto his, her expression cold, steady, and utterly fearless. The sudden lack of fear in her eyes stopped Julian dead in his tracks. His hand hovered in the air for a second before he slowly dropped it, a flicker of genuine unease crossing his features.

“Get out of my sight,” Julian muttered, turning away and storming down the hall.

What Julian didn't know was that every single second of that confrontation—including his raised hand and his verbal threats—was being crystal-clear recorded by a high-definition audio-visual recorder Morgan had pinned inside her cardigan collar.

Later that night, while Julian slept off his alcohol-induced stupor, Morgan quietly searched his home office desk. She found what she was looking for in the bottom locked drawer: a stash of burner phones, correspondence with his shady business associates, and receipts for the poison purchased through an illicit online forum, shipped to a PO box under a fake name.

She photographed every single document with her phone, backing up the files directly to an encrypted cloud vault. The net was closing in, and Julian was entirely unaware that he was the fish already trapped inside the barrel.
