Chapter 5 - The Tarmac Nightmare

"Custody?!"

The word tore out of Brianna Myers' throat like the shriek of a dying engine. She stumbled backward, her manicured fingers flying up to grip her pristine lapels as if physical contact could protect her from the sudden, catastrophic collapse of her entire world.

"Are you insane, Mr. Vance?!" Brianna shrieked, her voice cracking into a hysterical register that echoed off the high glass windows of Concourse E. "Look at him! He's wearing a twenty-dollar hoodie! He's a hobo! He probably smuggled himself onto the plane! Why are you arresting me?! I'm your top-performing senior flight attendant! I brought in thirty thousand dollars in credit card commissions last quarter!"

Neither of the two armed Port Authority officers flinched. At a sharp nod from the senior terminal manager, both officers stepped forward, heavy utility belts jingling, and seized Brianna by her crisp navy uniform sleeves.

"Hands behind your back, ma'am," the lead officer commanded, his voice flat and devoid of emotion.

"Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?!" Brianna thrashed wildly, her perfect blonde French twist coming undone as hairpins sprayed across the jet bridge carpet like shrapnel. "I'll have your badges! I'll have your jobs! Mr. Vance, tell them to let me go! Tell them!"

Marcus Vance didn't even blink. He kept his eyes locked respectfully on Kaden Ree, who stood like a statue amidst the rising chaos.

"Mr. Ree," Marcus asked quietly, ignoring Brianna's frantic screams, "do you wish to press criminal charges for assault and battery, or shall we handle this through civil litigation and immediate termination under Section 4 of the federal aviation labor code?"

Kaden slowly reached down, brushing a dry crumb off his coffee-stained jeans. He looked at Brianna, who was now weeping tears of rage and disbelief as the police officers pulled her plastic handcuffs tight around her wrists.

"Let her go for a second," Kaden instructed softly.

The officers hesitated, glancing at Marcus, who gave a sharp nod. They loosened their grip slightly, though they kept her firmly pinned by the arms.

Brianna staggered forward, her makeup smeared, her professional composure completely shattered. She stared at Kaden, her eyes wide with a mixture of terror and agonizing comprehension. The faded hoodie. The canvas sneakers. The absolute, terrifying calm in his eyes.

"You..." Brianna whispered, her voice trembling so violently her teeth clicked together. "You're... you're not a passenger."

"I am a passenger," Kaden corrected softly, stepping closer until he towered over her shaking form. "Just like every single person you've terrorized, insulted, and abused over the last fifteen years. The only difference is, today, you happened to pour coffee on the man who signs your paycheck."

Brianna’s knees buckled. If the two police officers hadn't caught her by the arms, she would have collapsed onto the jet bridge floor.

"Mr. Ree... please," she sobbed, the arrogance completely draining out of her, replaced by pathetic, groveling desperation. "Please, I have a family—I've given fifteen years of my life to this airline! Don't ruin my career over a cup of coffee! Please, I'm begging you!"

"Fifteen years," Kaden repeated, his voice devoid of all warmth. "And in all those years, how many people did you make feel like garbage because you wore a silver pin on your lapel? How many junior attendants did you crush under your thumb just because you could?"

He turned his gaze to Sarah Jenkins, the General Counsel. "Sarah. Ensure her pension is legally frozen pending an internal audit of her personnel file and customer complaint history. Every single complaint filed against Employee ID #48922 over the last decade is to be pulled, reviewed, and handed over to federal labor investigators."

"Done, Mr. Ree," Sarah replied instantly, tapping furiously on her tablet. "Her credentials are being revoked across the entire global aviation database as we speak. She will never work for a commercial carrier again."

"No... NO!" Brianna screamed as the police officers hoisted her up by her arms and began dragging her backward down the jet bridge toward the terminal exit. Her voice echoed down the long, empty corridor, fading into a pathetic wail until the heavy fire doors swung shut behind her.

The jet bridge grew dead silent once more.

Kaden stood alone with his executive team, the acrid scent of spilled coffee still lingering in the air around him.
